Is The Beadcage a real store?
Absolutely! We are a real brick and mortar store with our Flagship store located in Columbus Georgia, the fountain city and home of Fort Benning. We are the South's number one destination bead store. As you may note from this site, we are also a wonderful upscale gift store. We have customers from all fifty states and from about fifteen other countries to date.

When you purchase from The Beadcage, rest assured that you are dealing with a well-respected and popular store in the Columbus, Georgia community. When shopping with us on line you will still receive the same high quality customer service and high quality original products our brick and mortar store customers receive. Whether you shop on line or in our store, our prices are always competitive. What sets us apart is our service, our Southern charm, and our high quality standards. We look forward to serving you and welcoming you to The Beadcage family of satisfied customers.

Will you ship fragrance lamp fuel and Lampe Berger fragrance?
Absolutely! As you must know it is illegal to ship the fragrance without a license. We are one of only a few places that can legally ship these fragrances. We are licensed with the Department of Transportation to specifically ship fragrance lamp fuels.

Did you know that there is a fine of up to $15,000 per incident for shipping these fuels without a license? If the Department of transportation does not license the person shipping you your lamp fuel it is a crime and there is a serious risk of being fined. Whether shipping by UPS, FedEx, or USPS, it makes no difference and they must be licensed. Having a license does make a difference to you as the consumer. The Beadcage shippers have taken over thirty hours of classes and passed numerous tests to become licensed to be able to ship the fuel and ship it safely.

Do you ship to countries outside the United States?
Absolutely! We have been shipping to our customers from other countries for over three years now, without a problem. We attempt to ship our products in the safest and least expensive way possible. We will work with you by phone or email to determine the best way to ship your purchase. Although the final responsibility for taxes and customs rests with the customer we will try to assist you to help determine if any of these taxes or customs charges apply. We want you to shop with us and receive you merchandise as inexpensively as possible. We realize that the cost of shipping may deter you from buying from us and it is in our benefit to keep these charges low. We do not make money on shipping and we do not add extra charges to shipping. You may check these helpful web sites for more information:

Will I have problems with customs?
You may be subject to import duties and taxes, which are levied once a shipment reaches your country. Additional charges for customs clearance must be borne by you; we have no control over these charges and cannot predict what they may be. Customs policies vary widely from country to country; you should contact your local customs office for further information. Additionally, when ordering from Thebeadcage.com, you are considered the importer of record and must comply with all laws and regulations of the country in which you are receiving the goods. If you are from the European Union, please check this web site:

I know you have complementary gift-wrapping for your store; will you gift wrap online purchases at no additional charge?
Absolutely! You will have to include this request when you purchase. You may also email us or send your phone number so we can discuss exactly what you want wrapped and how. We do not gift wrap beads.

Many beaders are concerned about a return policy. We realize the difficulty of purchasing beads online and make every attempt to have accurate descriptions and pictures of our products. We are a destination bead store with a large on line presence. The same product offered to our quality demanding bead customers and designers here at The Beadcage store is offered on line. We do not sell low quality product at high prices. We understand that many of you will be reselling beads in your designs and we understand your mark-up concerns. All of our beads are fairly and competitively priced. Bead returns will be handled on an individual basis. If you feel you may have to return beads, please discuss this with us prior to your purchase and we will work closely with you to make sure you will be satisfied.

Where do you buy your beads?
In business we call this a “trade secret”. When we started our business in April of 2003, we opened with a “wholesale” purchase of $500 in beads bought at the Atlanta Mart. Since then we have grown significantly. Since our first purchase, in order to be price effective and stay in business we no longer purchase this way. We have worked hard over the years to purchase as many beads as possible straight from the source or manufacturer. We make yearly trips to Asia, and Africa to purchase beads and look for new suppliers.

Most of the beads purchased in the United States have passed through the hands of many “wholesalers” by the time they end up in your local bead store. Unless you are buying from the person who buys from the manufacturer, you are not getting a wholesale price. Don't be fooled if someone is selling you beads “wholesale”. You are really only receiving a retail discount price, and they call this a “wholesale” price.

The Beadcage buyers travel the world to buy directly from bead manufactures. We also purchase from many true wholesalers. We shop the major bead shows to buy many of our artist design beads and to fill in our inventory when we cannot buy directly from the manufacturer. Because we are by definition a retailer we do not sell wholesale by definition. We offer retail sales of beads everyday at a price which some places consider wholesale or at the same price of 50% off beads offered elsewhere. Our prices are similar to other on line prices. Our discount programs and Beadcage Bead Card program rewards all of our frequent buyers and bulk buyers fairly.

We actually custom order many of our beads to be made to our specifications. When we do this we must order at least 10 lbs of each bead. We carry hundreds of unique glass beads. The people we buy from do not offer wholesale sales for less than this quantity.

We also buy directly from the Swarovski crystal company. We are a direct Swarovski Distributor. Buying from The Beadcage is the next best thing to buying from Swarovski. We buy about $10,000 of Swarovski crystal each month and offer tremendous discounts or wholesale prices to our large bulk customers and designers. We are quickly becoming known as a destination store for the purchase of Swarovski Crystal.

How many beads do you have?
We have over 2 million individual beads on display and in stock everyday. The total selection is about 8,000 different beads. This would include: Glass, Czech, seed, Delicas, Swarovski, metal, silver, copper, gold, magnetic, bone, wood, semiprecious, clay, lampwork, Hill Tribe, Bali, artist, Kazuri and many others. We have a large selection of findings, tools, and magazines.

I heard you were an upscale boutique and your prices are above average. Is this true?
Well, yes and no. We are upscale in that we offer a large selection of very nice beads and high quality gifts. We offer the same in our brick and mortar architect designed store. We offer a comfortable, clean, well lit and relaxing environment in which to enjoy shopping for beads for hours. At our brick and mortar store we encourage well behaved quite children and do not play loud distracting music. Our employees dress in a respectful professional manner. We are respectful, knowledgeable, and articulate on the phone, by email and in person. All things together, yes, The Beadcage would be considered upscale.

That said, you don't have to dress up to shop with us on line or at the store. When all is done, we are still a bead store. While some things are expensive at the store, nothing is overpriced. If you ever see anything overpriced, we want to know about it. Before we price anything we always search ourselves to make sure nothing is overpriced. We may not always be the least expensive, but we wont ever knowingly take advantage of our customers by selling something at an unreasonable price. We don't sell cheap or junk beads. We don't sell plastic beads. Our product and the quality of our product commands a higher price than those beads found at big box hobby stores. Given this, even for the exact items found in the big box stores, our prices are almost always better. For example at the time of this writing we have over 1000 stands of fresh water pearls priced from $4.75 up to $200 with most under $20. We sell thousands of individual beads starting at three cents and going up to about $35 for our Stuart Abelman beads.
